The Clifford H. "Ted" Rees, Jr. Scholarship
The Clifford H. "Ted" Rees, Jr. Scholarship Foundation was established to assist with the recruitment and competency of future heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) technicians by awarding scholarships to qualified students who
are enrolled in an institutionally accredited school.
The Rees Scholarship Foundation has awarded nearly $124,000 to 76 deserving students between 2003 and 2010. Each year, prior to the spring and fall academic semesters, the foundation awards approximately 15 scholarships of up to the amount of $2,000 each to qualified students who are enrolled in an HVACR program at an accredited institution.
Eligibility
Eligible students are those who are enrolled in an HVACR training program at an institutionally accredited school. Students are encouraged to attend training programs that have earned the Partnership for Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation (
PAHRA
) or an institution that is requiring the Industry Competency Exam (ICE).
A student must be a United States citizen, national or resident alien (resident aliens must include a letter of the nominee's intent to become a United States citizen and a photocopy of the Alien Registration Card) in preparation for a career in either residential air-conditioning and heating, light commercial air-conditioning and heating, or commercial refrigeration as an entry level technician. Two letters of recommendation from present or past employers, present or former teachers, or other professionals must also be submitted with the application. A student must demonstrate educational potential as demonstrated by submission of the student's prior education, work history/military service, and a typewritten personal statement letter of 150-200 words explaining why the applicant would like to be considered for a Rees Scholarship.

Awards Process
All applicants will be screened with reference to the eligibility requirements stated above. A fair, objective, consistent, and equitable process will be used to narrow the field of candidates to the desired number of finalists.
AHRI forwards a list of qualified applicants to the Review Committee. In awarding scholarships, the Review Committee will consider the nominee's career objectives and the extent to which that individual has the commitment for a career in the HVACR industry as an entry-level technician.
A letter from AHRI will be sent to the winners to notify them of the award.
